01 Core components

Smart Metering is a system that uses sensors, communication technologies and data processing platforms to monitor and intelligently manage the consumption of energy such as water, electricity, gas and heat in real time. Communication module: Supports remote data transmission, typically using wireless technologies (such as Zigbee, LoRa, Sub-1G or Wi-Fi), allowing utility companies to obtain data in real time without manual intervention.

Data management system: Handles massive amounts of data, including real-time monitoring, demand response, and abnormal alarm. For instance, the system can identify abnormal electricity usage (such as electricity theft or faults) and respond quickly to power outages, reducing the repair time from several hours to just a few minutes.

Application service layer: This is the "brain" of the system, supporting remote meter reading, multi-rate billing, prepaid functions, and user-end APP viewing of consumption information.

02 Working principle

The workflow of smart metering begins with data collection: sensors capture consumption information, which is then uploaded to the cloud or the main station system through communication modules. The main station system analyzes data and provides insights, such as suggestions for optimizing peak and off-peak electricity consumption or energy conservation. Compared with traditional metering, smart metering provides accurate and up-to-date consumption data, allowing utility companies and users to monitor and manage energy usage more effectively. For instance, under the Internet of Things architecture, the master station of the intelligent power metering system can achieve two-way communication and support demand response (such as automatically adjusting power consumption during peak hours).

03 Main trends
